Mr. Metz was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Shortly after he was born his family moved to a suburb 13 miles east of Pittsburgh. He grew up in a family of six--his father, mother, 3 older sisters, and two dogs. As he and his siblings grew up and graduated from college, they all moved away except one of his sister. They have remained close even though they seldom get together all at the same time. Each year they make their annual family trip to Pawleys Island, South Carolina. A place his family calls their second home since Mr. Metz was a little baby. Each year the family is blessed with the ability to relax and have fun with their ever growing family at Pawleys. Beyond his parents and sister Mr. Metz has been blessed with 2 wonderful brother-in-laws and 6 amazing nieces and 2 nephews.
Mr. Metz is blessed with a loving family who are avid Steelers fans. He has been married to his wife Elizabeth for 19 yrs. They are extremely proud of their 11 year old son, Thomas. Thomas is an energetic boy, who does not seem to want to slow down. He is following in his father's footsteps in becoming a wrestler and soccer player. Mr. Metz and his family love the outdoors. Recently, he has been turning his family into avid sailors. He developed a love for sailing from his oldest sister and father. His family has developed their own annual tradition of going to a large music festival each year. The tradition started with the LEAF festival in Asheville, NC when Thomas was 8 months old. This year they will return to the LEAF festival after a 2 year hiatus. Around the house they enjoy working in the yard, playing family games, and have weekly movie nights. Their greatest joy comes from spending time with their two Australian Sheppards, Bertha and Althea. The dogs are their extended family who go with them on almost every trip. Mr. Metz went to college at the University of Pittsburgh. After college he went into sales, ran a landscaping company, and was a ski instructor. Other than ski instructing he did not fully enjoy any of his other occupations. This led him to his decision to become a teacher. This is nineteenth year of teaching. While he was teaching, he went back to school for a Masters in Education at the University of Pittsburgh. He also completed a second masters degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Georgia. When he has some alone time he spends time either reading, listening to music, cooking, playing scrabble on the computer, doing sudoku, or watching his favorite sports teams which are the following: the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Pittsburgh Pirates, all the University of Pittsburgh sports, Georgia Bulldog football, and Duke University basketball. He really enjoys going out and listening to music or watching movies at home on his couch. His main hobby is music. He truly loves it. His musical taste is as vast as his interests. He likes all different kinds of music, except for big band and opera. His favorite musicians are the Grateful Dead, Bruce Springsteen, Dire Straits, Mark Knoffler, B.B. King, The Rolling Stones, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, J.J. Cale, Bob Dylan, String Cheese Incident, Railroad Earth, Greensky Bluegrass, and Leftover Salmon. Another hobby he enjoy but does not spend enough time doing is reading. He like mysteries and short stories about “the simple lessons of life” best. His favorite author is Robert Fulghum. He would like to teach for a while longer and continue his coaching. He loves being in the classroom with his students and on the mats with his wrestlers. When he is ready to move on from teaching, he would like to remain an educator. He would eventually like to become a teacher consultant or teacher coach. When he retires, he plans on doing a lot of traveling another one of my true passions. |
